A spike of insulin results in a burst of inflammation throughout the body. Inflamation leads to the activation of free radicals (damaging chemicals. To prevent free radical damage the body has a defense system of antioxidants. Antioxidants are molecules which can safely interact with free radicals and prevent further damaged.

Leading causes of inflammation:

Wheat, sugar, corn syrup, saturated fat, palm oil, sunflower oil, corn oil, coffee

Below is a list of foods that help reduce inflammation within the body.

Anti-inflammatory foods:

Grains – brown rice, buckwheat, quinoa, squash, sweet potato, mushrooms, dark leafy greens, cabbage / brussel sprouts,
cauliflower, ginger, garlic, onions, leeks, turmeric, sage, green tea, extra virgin olive oil, almond, almond butter, walnuts and miso soup.

I have created an anti-inflammatory tea that tastes delicious! I recommend preparing 1 big drink at the begining of the week and drinking 1 cup every day.

1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
1 tablespoon grated fresh turmeric
1 cup packed fresh mint leaves
4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
4 tablespoons raw, local honey
5 cups water
1/2 teaspoon crushed black pepper

 1. Add all the ingredients into a jug and allow to simmer overnight!
